nothing much to update about, but here ya go cynthers =D

Reading Sidewalk for Introductory Anthropology. About the life of street vendors, scavengers, and panhandlers in Greenwich Village in the 1980s-1990s. It notes that the homeless aren't typically from dysfunctional, terribly poor families. Usually what leads them to the street is drug abuse, and the disconnections from family and friends that result -from- that abuse (prior to their usage of drugs their family members weren't neglectful or anything like that). Some even claim to choose being homeless, because they have this, and I quote this from the book, a 'fuck it' mentality. It's apparently not rare for the homeless to be resigned to a life on the streets. They're even proud, in a sense, because what they're doing, vending, scavenging, panhandling, is better than robbing or stealing. Plus the street vendors get a sense of self-respect and pride from the way they are able to handle their businesses. And the book has a point, that they are in fact sustaining themselves, even if it's in an informal economy.

Watch these funny videos from Jay Leno's Phony Free Photo Booth. They're awesome. 'Is that your girlfriend? Where was the girlfriend you were with...[pause] yesterday?' 'Coochie, coochie, coo, I got you in your belly, I got you in your belly, ah POO, ah POO, I got you in your belly!'
