Rubberband man like a one man band

I hate the internet. Everything's full of spyware and viruses and crap and it feels like this computer is rotting from the inside out because of it. The DSL is a double edged sword... this computer was certainly faster back in the 56k days because it didn't have a constant barrage of downloadable crap slowing it down, but now we don't have to use ( Read more... )

yea, adware and spyware sucks, especially because you dont know where it's going to come from. basically, if anything pops up that says "would you like to download the (random name) software? you CANNOT run (so and so) without this!" and you didn't ask the window to pop up, don't do it. Also, to get rid of spyware already on your computer, go to Google and search for Ad-Aware, and go download it (it will be from a company called Lavasoft.... make sure you download the FREE version, NOT the pro version which costs money). And for any PC checkups overall, go to www.pcpitstop.com, create an account, and have fun... the stuff on the site is pretty self-explanitory.

So there you go, the advice you didn't ask for but got anyway!

and if you need anymore help, call either myself or Tommy Beutow

thanks for the advice, son. I already have Ad-aware and I use it regularly, and I know that if I don't prompt the computer to bring up a message about downloading software that I shouldn't do it. However, I'm the only person in my family who uses Ad-aware, and everyone else likes to say "yes!" and download as much stupid crap as they can. Think Comet Curser and all kinds of horrible CPU infesting business. I'm fighting a losing battle... which is why I'm going to love having my new college computer hooked up to the internet once I get to UK.

The pcpitstop.com thing is interesting, though, as I've never heard of it before... this could be very helpful.

Thanks again.

haha, yea, im glad i have my own computer for that reason. Ad-aware is a God-send. And also watch out for Gator Software, WildTangent plugins, and GAIN software.

And PC Pitstop is really nice... even got the seal of approval from the Techies down at my dads office
