I have inquired recently, but in a relatively shallow manner, into the nature of literature--specifically, what makes it, and is there a way I can parlay my fascination with (predominantly epic) fantasy novels into a sort of literary credibility? I'm really hoping that the use of all the GRE words is ironic here, and that you haven't actually become that much of a pretentious douchebag.

It's a good point that what often defines top-class or canonical literature is the use of some of some of those words you mentioned, or two page long paragraphs with no periods and so on. I think that belongs to an older style of writing from the 1800s and earlier...to us (or at least to me) it seems pretentious and confusing, and I value clarity in writing above all else. Ideally there's a mix of quality substance and clear writing...and sometimes words that aren't part of the usual vernacular are appropriate.
