I'm inclined to cut poor Anselm a break; he didn't have the benefit of the thousand proceeding years of response to his ideas. We take for granted that it was an exceptionally stupid argument to make in the way that he made it, but even today most people can't really explain why! ;) But somebody had to be the one to say the silly things aloud that other people only think!

I dunno; I think it was a brilliant argument, actually; it would have just been more brilliant to have understood why he was wrong, too.

I'm pretty sure the phrase 'If only wishing made it so.' is old... I wonder if it's old enough for Anselm to have known it... hrm...
