[It's late evening on Route 29, a little while before it hits the point of complete darkness, and Juudai is struggling with something off-camera.]So I got a fish, and I didn't even have to go fishing for him this time! He just kind of came to me in an egg, hehe! I sorta wish I still had a rod with me, but I guess the one I carry around with me got ( Read more... )

Metapods and Kakunas. They're not hard to find, and they won't attack back.

[Why no, he doesn't have first-hand experience at Magikarp training. What would give you that idea? The fact that he has two of them and wants to see if they ever actually have potential to be reached? Haa, that doesn't mean anything, I swear. ^^]

...Except he can't attack in the first place... meaning training him by himself is next to impossible, even with things that don't attack back.

But I guess that makes sense, anyway. I just need to spread it out between my three, and it should pay off eventually.

Hey, thanks for the tip, Manjoume!

[Well, considering that if the cocoons don't attack back you don't have to worry about the darn fish getting too badly hurt before you can send someone in to actually do something...]

Don't mention it.

Thistle?

Well, I guess I did, then. Anything in particular I should know about it...?

Magikarp are very difficult to use in battle, and they require a lot of patience and care, but...

It will pay off in the end if you take the time to give it the care it needs.

Mmm, I sure hope so. I was gonna use my other Pokemon to help set an example, but so far, no luck. Still, I'm not done with him yet. So I'm sure he'll find some use with a little time.

Thanks for the advice, though. I'll take care of him, I promise.

[raises a brow. There's a Magnemite circling Snake's head, and a Togepi's spikes... but it's a little harder to see the Togepi.]

That's a huge fish.

No kidding. I've never caught anything this big before at home, even in the ocean.

And he's... really, really hard. His scales, I mean. I guess he was built to resist being eaten. I don't intend to or anything, but it's pretty weird.

You got a Magikarp too, huh?

[HELLO I AM A SPINARAK SUDDENLY UP IN YOUR VIDEO]

Hey, stop that--uh, let's see. Something interesting...when I was in college, I built a toaster.

...And it kind of exploded.

Yeah... guess I'm not the only one.

Haaaaaa, is that a spider?

Hehe, sounds like what'd happen if I tried to build something mechanical. I have a friend who could probably do it no problem, but I'm not very techy, myself.

...Don't really have any plans to go to college, anyway.

I-it's okay. He's a little unsettling, but he's fine once you get used to him.

I think the problem was that I wired it wrong. Couple of wires burned and kaboom. I don't usually make mistakes that obvious.

[Shrug.] Eh, not everyone does. Works for some people and not for others, y'know?

Hey, I think spiders are cool! Maybe they are unsettling, sure, but they probably think we're just as weird, walking on two legs with two arms and two eyes and all.

Well, I think I just have other things to be doing with my life. I'm a wanderer... I don't care much to stay tied down to anything or anyone for too long. I'd actually wanted to leave high school early, too, but I got convinced to stay for reasons other than education, so to speak. Still, I managed to finish out the year anyway, so I guess that's for the better.

Congratulations, you have a magikarp.

[Totally making a support group for magikarp owners whut.]

Sure looks that way.

...I don't really get why everyone is so annoyed with them, though. I'm sure they'll grow up to be perfectly useful in their own right. Even the weakest little things have a use, it's just a matter of finding it.

Uh-huh. You didn't start off with just that and have to sit "training" for hours against metapods all day.

...You, er... started with one?

[A bewildered pause.]

...Oh. I guess I can see how that'd be a problem. Maybe it is frustrating to try and train, but... it paid off eventually, didn't it?
