What an interesting week it has been. I have had only limited access to a dinosaur of a computer so forgive my long and belated update.

My birthday was pleasant though anticlimactic. I went out to dinner with Brian, Angela, and Robin who got along famously. Brian picked the restaurant--Dupont Italian Kitchen, or Di(c)k to those in the know. I of course, was not in the know, so when Angela said, "Isn't that a *boys* place?" I just shrugged. She went on to tell me to expect strippers--boy strippers--and tease me about bringing making sure I had dollar bills in my pockets. When we got there (a half hour late thanks to DC's parking situation) it was...just a nice italian restaurant with Brian waiting looking at his watch. Our party did provide 3/5th of the women in the place, but it was a classy joint and we had a lovely dinner. After that Robin and I went to "ladies night" at Chaos, where they DIDNT CARD ME and a whole 5 people populated the dance floor. We eventually gave up, left, tried to find icecream, and ended up taking the metro back in separate directions. I spent the rest of the night wandering aimlessly around Arlington, afraid to call angela and disturb her long awaited sexual tryst.

This was a say spent in the wonderful world of public transportation. 2 busses (one of which was the famous chinatown "today" bus) 3 subways, 1 commuter-rail and a whole lot of wandering later I made it out to Andy. Beaten, exhausted, without a working phone, drenched in sweat, and aching for sleep, I dined with my boyfriend and his family, bonded with his brother over obnoxious patrons and awful lounge singers and then fell the fuck asleep.

The next day we drove back to NY to visit one of my favorite places: the
bronx zoo. I'm too tired to tell you details, other than that I learned the following:
1)Tigers are REALLY tall, and really cute and don't mind being bopped on the nose sometimes.
2)there is absolutely nothing between the birds in the "world of birds" and you. they really can fly out and peck your nose, they just choose not too. they will however, fly within inches of your face if someone throws a live cricket there.
3)polar bears are still the greatest creatures ever.
4/4/04 Saw the
Lion King on Broadway. It's amazing on not very disney at all. They made it into a gorgeous spectacle of an african parable instead. And they made Nala a real character.

Andy came to my house for passover. My family loved him. Having grown up without cousins, andy was quick to adopt mine, who were perfectly happy with this. Jake, aka boyboy, the youngest of the brood fell in love with andy and called my father "the diyanu man" and reminded me why I shouldn't venture too far from home for too long. I love this holiday. I think I'll rant on it soon, but not now, because it's 1am and i'm not done with this godforsaken post. Anyway, it went well, although my father still refuses to talk/make eye contact with andy. Also, I love potato kugel.
4/7/04 Fathers birthday, back at school, write paper.

Last night was magical. 80+ people crowded into the King House living-room (and dining-room and foyer) to listen to the wonderful lyrical, beautiful, and moving storyteller
Heather Forest, as she sang and moved and spoke to us, made us laugh and taught us some of the lessons of the Oral Tradition. It was a kind of literary that I've never seen at Brown. and we all sat there, our asses falling asleep on the floor, and sang "aaaauuuuummmmm" as human bagpipes, not feeling at all self conscious, and hoping she would never leave. It was beautiful.
For those of you who know the story behind
the funding for this event, you'll understand why I'm doubly happy. Walter "this isn't the kind of thing we fund" Perry can kiss my astronomy. 80+ people experienced the beauty of literature in my home last night, and left feeling full. Walter "nothing worthwhile can come out of Kappa" Perry should be proud of
his brothers and sisters. We did good.
Which, finally, brings us somewhat up to date.
