It was so intriguing to see this pairing listed; it wasn't anything I'd ever thought about before but once I saw it it seemed so obvious. Everything about it was so gorgeous and right and I feel as if I finally know for a fact what Lex was up to all last season.
There were so many gorgeous passages, but these were two that resonated the most with me:
He’s harder to deal with than Clark in some ways. He has a conscience, not a list of principles. He hates what he has to do, hates himself, makes it no secret. He doesn’t let you shape him, but he’s willing to listen.
This encapsulates so much of what made Davis such an amazing character to me. He was conscious of his sins and yet aware of the choices he made; it's the exercise of his agency, even in the midst of his out-of-control biology and Lex's exploitive-from-the-outside plan that define him.
There’s a cloud over your mind and it’s everything he was. You used to think the Luthor name would become something more than a legacy of blood. There are people who’ve survived, the ones
( ... )
You think maybe he was the one they should have tried saving.
Always were the voice of reason, Lex. Of course on SV that makes you evil.
Oh my there's a hint of necrophilia going on up in there. A woman after my own heart ... I hereby subtitle this fic "Well Worth the Dig" and that's only funny if you've seen the movie Quills.
Davis is more perceptive than Clark.
Well, so are houseplants ...
Heh Lex watches him sleep.
He has a conscience, not a list of principles.
Nail on head there.
...Then get close enough to touch *me*
Ahem.
She had him. She wanted him and what he made her feel. But when it came down to it, her phobias won her over and she did what she was told. She threw Davis away so easily. That dead one was the boy you remember. That boy was your only friend.
I love you, Lex. This is the best shit that ever happened.
t strikes you that you aren’t thinking of Clark. You haven’t been thinking of Clark for a very long time. Well how could he? I love the Davis thing. How it's easy to think you have the upper hand
( ... )
WOMAN! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO GIVE ME A HEARTATTACK OR SOMETHING?!
*breathes*
This is just great. Chloe's dead and I wanna scream HA! but it HURTS LIKE HELL. Meanwhile Davis is like the friend Lex wished he had in Clark since Davis has a 'conscience' not a 'list of priorities' and damn you Lex for being one of the most perceptive villains out there.
I’m so not the target audience. I can love particular moments and turns of phrase: 'He’s still holding onto the casings, rolling them in his fingers, forehead full of tears.' in particular, makes my heart sink. (In a good way. There is a good way
