i've been searching through classifieds over the past couple months, and have come to the conclusion that i am apparently qualified for nothing, especially anything remotely creative. apparently the only creative jobs out there are for graphic designers. too bad i don't know ANYTHING about graphic design. i'm not above working in a totally ( Read more... )

kara,
welcome to my life. i wish i had good advice, but i'm pretty disgruntled about the whole art school/graduating from college thing. they lift us up and then leave us SO unprepared.

unfortunately, bloomington is kind of a wasteland for both jobs and internships. i'm not really sure why. most of the arts related stuff here is run by a core of middle age/older people and volunteers.

as far as grad school goes, for me that would really just be stalling... at least right now. i don't want to put myself in debt to be in this position again when i graduate. i mean, maybe later on i'll have the urge, but right now it's just not really an option.

thanks for the reply, though. you're much more optimistic than me! ha ha. a lot of people say that when you graduate all you want to do is go back to school because it's so eaaaaasy compared to the real world, but i still think those people are dicks. it's all stressful, just in different ways.

you and bek should come down again soon!

Well that really sucks about the internships. Since I'm not in bloomington its obviously harder for me to REALLY know how things work down there. Grad school is still an option if you go for an assistantship, grants, or financial aid. Other than that I would say you need to move away to a place that has more culture, such as Chicago and it's suburbs, or Louisville, or possibly even Indianapolis. I'm forced with that decision of moving right now, trying to pick out which place is economically and financially better for me.

i am so still in bloomington, it hurts. ha ha. i have all of my equipment still, but the room i had it in is temporarily out of order while it's being insulated. fun stuff!

i'm so jealous of all the fairs and commissions you're doing! maybe i'm just a douchebag, but i never hear about any of that stuff. i need to kick myself in the ass!

yeah, this place is the suck when you are not in school. when do you get your printing room back?
i'm pretty busy with art stuff, but so far its not really paying off. i'm just trying to keep at it and not get too discouraged. you should do the same! also, if i hear about anything, i shall let you know. there is a small works show at the waldron if you are interested, but the deadline is monday.

the suck, indeed.

i've moved all of the insulation and tools out of the way even though the room isn't finished yet. it's pretty dusty, but i think that i'm going to start up in the next two weeks anyway. hopefully it won't be too dirty and gross. as far as that show goes, monday = yikes. thanks for letting me know, though. keep me updated, lady!
