Incredible piece. Very interesting insight to both Sam and Dean's situation. I love your writing!

Your portrait of Sam, as a young man whose soul is slowly being overtaken by darkness, yet who still manages to battle back from the edge (at least, for now), is intriguing.
So, good stuff, all around. And I'm eager to read more in this series. =)
I do have one concrit to offer. I think this repetition must have gotten missed on the final read-through. You say "he [Dean] upended seemingly half a bottle of ketchup over his plate" in one paragraph. And then a couple paragraphs later, you say, "he poured seemingly half a bottle of ketchup on his plate".
I also caught a couple of typos. It should be "toe", here, rather than "tow":
This is the same guy who threatened to send you back to Hell if you didn't tow the party line, remember?
And here (They'd been keeping their voices low and hadn't attracted any ( ... )

From a canon standpoint, I haven't been real thrilled by the distance between the boys this season, but it gives the ficcers a lot to play with at least. I was rewatching some eps from the second season a while back and Sam's development throughout the series has been kind of amazing; I really want to work with that and see how far I can push him--and nothing seems to push Sam's buttons like the threat of losing Dean. The next fic in the series will focus more on Sam and how he deals with everything. Hopefully, it won't take me a month to write this time.
Dean and Castiel will be in the fifth fic, but I promise that it will be worth the wait.
Thank you so much for reviewing and for your input with the concrit. I'm glad you liked the fic. ^_^v

I thought it was interesting that Kripke said both actors had approached him, separatedly, saying they were having some difficulty playing their roles with that distance between the brothers.

I think, out of all the Dean/Castiel fic I've read so far, you have Castiel's character down best, and seeing the boys through their eyes is very interesting. I love your portrayal of Sam here too, and their confrontation was brilliant. I cannot wait to see their fight over Dean, it's bound to be explosive in the best way. I just cannot wait for the next installments in this series, period!

In that instant, the boy looked like the shy young man who'd shaken his hand scant days ago--heartrendingly young and painfully lost. Far from the Light.
Oh God, Dean . . .
The thought was projected and intrusive and entirely unintentional on the boy's part, but it struck Castiel hard, momentarily dragging the angel down in a heady and impossible to scrutinize mixture of needfeargrieflovefailuresorrowlustguiltragelosswantsorrysorrysosorryIcan't-"
Gah! You made the screen glaze with tears, oh wait - that's me. These characterisations are brilliant, and maybe I'll even develop some patience for Castiel with reading, 'cos so far, .... hmmm.....
Thank you.
