Sometimes even I have to feel sorry for the mutt. I will watch the girl lean down to pick the mutt up and Cali will cower as if the girl is about to hit her. Sometimes Daddy will be playing with her and she'll lay down like she thinks Daddy is going to hit her. I've tried to tell her the girl and Daddy aren't those kinds of folks. I don't ( Read more... )

Isn't that so sad, VK? One of my doggies here is like that. Any fast move in her direction, any loud noise, and she freaks out and pees the floor and tries to hide. She's doing a lot better since she first moved here, a year and a half ago...but it takes a long time to undo effects of abuse. Cali is in a great place with a great family who will let her know that she is safe, and hopefully soon, she'll feel better about everything.

Not sure how long it will take. She can still be fairly skittish. Moreso with strangers than with Daddy and the girl. The girl takes her out on walks often though partly for exercise and partly in the hopes that with meeting other friendly folks she'll gain more positive people experiences.

I don't know if you are still working on figuring out what breeds are in Cali. I see a bit of Aussie Shepherd (merle) and Papillon shape/size in her. Just letting you know... The coloring is an awful lot like aussie merle that I've been looking at all morning on petfinder and http://www.arim.org/adopt.htm (Princess the dog)

Guess I'll figure it out when I finally get her into the vet. Vet appt had to wait till this month when hopefully we can better afford it. I had someone remark not long ago they'd never seen a miniature aussie. ;) I agree that through my looking on the internet she does seem to have the colorings/markings of an Aussie.
