Journalism homework.

Having, happily, gotten someone to interview (and having forgotten to pay the wonderful person), Beka turned in her final project for journalism.

An Interview: Final Class Project

Lana Lang wants to give back to the community when she grows up. There's a strong sense of family about her, right down to the sweet smile that makes a person feel at home.

Not one to hide her emotions, she shines with animation when she talks about riding horses, "I still remember the first time I rode - well, I sat there and someone helped lead the horse around. It was just a magical feeling." Her current horse, Donatello, is stabled back home. She misses him a great deal, and plans to spend most of her Christmas break riding him.

It was her aunt that got her interested in riding. An aunt who is the only surviving member of her close family. The fall of a meteor took them from her and it's obvious she still misses them.

This, perhaps, is the basis for her need to create a family around herself, the impetus for giving back to the community. Though this goal is far in the future. Don't be looking to Ms. Lang to add to the underage, un-wed mother population anytime soon.

Elsewhere, she's proud of herself for winning in horse shows, but embarrassed about her aunt displaying her trophies, "I just don't know that I'd keep them all out like that if it was just up to me."

It's perhaps significant that the one item she would never part with is a book of fairy tales her mother gifted her with. A link back to a simpler time in her life, moments when she could be childish, and dress up as Snow White.

Not a loud or flashy girl, Lana isn't the one people will come to when they want drugs and rock'n'roll. She is the one who will patch up scraped knees and hand out cookies to the children who just need a little love. In some ways, she'll make a far greater impact than the women with bold words and no clothing.

Talking with her is like taking a moment of time and getting that breath back that's sorely needed in the fast pace of today's society. She's a breath of fresh air and sunshine during these dreary winter days.

Like a princess in a fairy tale, the future holds a glass slipper, responsibility, and a prince for Lana (but hopefully, no apples). Although she's not going to wait for them to come to her.

Book of fairy tales.
