Isn't it great when you dread something so much but you end up doing it and you enjoy it than other things :P Your first assignment is just going to be a breeze for you! hehe..and no spending money on textbooks! that's just wonderful!

yes, i was very excited. I'm taking another class as well (a 4000 level math course) so I was glad to catch a break with english. Two classes in the short summer session is still a hefty load, and language arts is not my strong suit, but everyone has to take English 1000. I was afraid it was really going to suck trying to do all that writing AND keep up with my math HW, but now I'm thinking it will be a breeze!

omgomgomg...I want an assignment like that...

cause it's already done. I did that exact assignment in English 111 (Intro to composition) and it wasnt even required. I just did it because i fell in love with Joesph Campbell's heros and everything.

Things Fall Apart by Chinuah Achebe is hard to do a Hero's journey by though. It's really hard to write, because some of the time you don't like Okonkwo...and I am getting over my head. Where is this class at and can I take it?

oh gosh. I think I read that book a long time ago, but i don't remember it much. I just read part of Josheph Campbell's book over the summer, but had to return b/c the library mafia was after me o.O But ya, the above assignment was one I made up as an example, but I'm sure it will be some sort of literary analysis type stuff.

Well, the class is in Missouri, maybe you could take it by correspondance ;)

Anyways, I'm looking forward to the class (it actually starts tomorrow) because I've been meaning to re-read CoS anyways, and SS is always interesting Snape-wise. (is he good, is he bad? Round and round we go and where we stop nobody knows!) Plus it really only takes me about 1-2 hrs to read SS because it's short and i've read it so many times.

well, that was actually just a made up example assignment, but i'm guessing it will be literary analysis type stuff. But ya, HP books are the only required ones, so I'm guessing theres not a lot of other reading (class starts tomorrow, so I don't know for sure). If there is other reading it is probably just electronic resource type stuff.

I find it kind of odd that they're only using those two books and not another to compare and contrast.

i went to the first day of class today. Apparently what we are doing is literary critique and practicing the format for academic discourse. for the first assignment, we are reading some scholarly articles about HP, then developing an argument on the topic: "Harry Potter, More than fun?"

I don't know what I'm going to say about that yet. But in light of HBP I think I am going to look for evidence in Bk. 1 that it is the plot, not her writing, that make these books good. So, it may be more than fun (speaking to our need for jungian archetypes or something) but it is not brilliant literature.
