That's what tends to happen when it's winter, jolly Joly.

But it shouldn't.

Would a hug warm you up, Uncle Joly?

'M sure that's a start, but I do feel that the influenza is setting in already.

Well! I do hope you're not catching! *hugs tightly*

*grin* Possibly-- not for certain, of course, but possibly-- it might have something to do with the fact that it is December.

Then I would say that it should always, always remain September, but there are far too many leaves that could lodge themselves into my eyes for me to actually wish it to be September. Again.

Exactly. If it's any comfort at all, if you get ill it's essentially guaranteed that you won't be alone, and, come September, you won't be the only one blinded by the brilliant colours of autumn, either.

And how it would tear me in two 'f I was alone!
Alas, I found it more of a being "blinded by the dead insects making their way underneath my eyelids" fashion of blindness.

The easiest answer is 'Because it is winter', mon cher, but everyone else has already provided you with that answer, so I must think of something else. One must always strive to be an original, mustn't one?

Then, my love, it is cold because your fire has gone out, and you've no one holding you. There, you've two answers for the price of one, and though I shouldn't like to get my dress dirty by kneeling at your hearth to light a new fire, I shall, if you'd like it, embrace you.
