Most people don't understand Gertrude Stein's famous saying about Oakland, that there is no there there. It was actually in the past tense "there was no there there." She wasn't describing Oakland as a boring city or a cultural wasteland, which is how it's always interpreted. Yes, home is people. When they're gone, it's just stuff. Although I found that the process of resolving the stuff does help resolve the emotional loss. I hope it helps you, too.
