If only it had something to do with 'April Fools'...wishful thinking.

God, the new weezer single is soooooooo BAD. It's, like, GROSS......and EMBARRASSING. I've heard it on the actual radio a couple times now. This whole surreal, post-2000, weezer-suddenly-sucks-worse-than-any-band-could-ever-possibly-suck 'joke' is definitely not funny or ironic or intriguing (or any ther rationalization I can come up with) ( Read more... )

The pull of Pinkerton is too strong.

Well, it's not like I'm just some completely delusional fan boy still hoping for the next 'Pinkerton' or whatever you guys are suggesting. It's more like, "just write a real song already!" I mean, this Cuomo fella' used to clearly know the difference between 'cool' and 'uncool'...'rock' and 'schlock'...etc. Now he seems to be COMPLETELY without a clue. It's frustrating that he's giving music types (like yourselves) valid reasons to hate on his band too, when he used to have [what seemed like] cemented respect. His recent sucking is so extreme, it's bizarre...and goes beyond him merely being old and washed up. The story sounds dumb, but he really did have some weird reaction to Pinkerton's commercial failure due to the fact that he was following his instincts on what would make good music when he made it (hence, it's good!), but then realized maybe he couldn't trust himself anymore after it didn't sell well. So basically he's been doubting his abilities ever since and trying to re-figure-out what kind of songwriter he's supposed ( ... )

im in complete agreement with milemedeaf. metal bands making pop music is not innovation.

Wait, Weezer??? Rivers was a metal head in his formative years, if that's what you're getting at...but who wasn't? And Weezer has never been (nor ever tried to be) about innovation?! However, they WERE about quality and being generally very very unbad.

weezer is still one of the most overrated "commercial radio" bands

Ha. I promise I'm not just trying to be an ass, but what would be an example of a "commercial radio" band that ISN'T overrated? I mean, I would much rather hear something like "Say it Ain't So" or "Buddy Holly" on my car radio than whatever else is out there, or WAS out there at the time those songs came out (when commercial radio was even in a slightly better state than it is now). Remember, we're talking about pre-2000 weezer here. I can't defend anything after Pinkerton...except the "Velouria" cover, which ruled.
