To Live Is To Die

High Fidelity was on Comedy Central tonight. I love it when a movie that you really like randomly appears on the television and you suddenly have a genuinely GOOD excuse to do some boob tube watchin'. That movie in particular was something I needed to see today too...just 'cause...just 'cause. There are so few movies that need no improvement ( Read more... )

Master of Puppets for sure...Battery. Leper Messiah. Sanatarium. Awesome stuff.

And how can you not get excited about Ride the Lightning?

Gee, I dunno guys. It isn't hands down Puppets for me...though I love that album. And I guess I like Ride the Lightning just fine, but the production value sounds pretty dated and the popular songs on that album are totally overrated, in my opinion. "Fade to Black" is basically "Nothing Else Matters" with a heavy part and "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is pretty average...not to mention the fact that using a spooky church bell as an intro for a metal song was WAY too predictable by 1984. I consider Puppets and Justice their 'prime' because the double kick drum was in full effect by then and Hetfield's voice had developed into the famous growl (vs. the higher register screech of the earlier stuff that sounded more like every other metal band of the period). I feel like Justice always got a bad rap because it was the first album that Jason Newsted played on, which people unfairly decided was the start of sucky-era-Metallica. Not true. To me, ANY of those songs on the first half of the album destroy anything they had done previous... ( ... )

I love high fidelity. And I've seen it way too many times. Have you ever read the book? I'd like to sometime...

Book rocks so much harder than movie. first of all it is in London which kicks ass a city over chicago unless you're talking about gangs, in which case chicago makes more sense as a locale. But High Fidelity = no gangs. But changing the location makes more sense than listening to John Cusack do a bad english accent.

Nick Hornsby used to be my favorite author when I was a kid...his later books aren't as hot as his earlier ones, but maybe I will change my tune about that when I get all old and crochety.

Right now I am just old.

I'm curious about the book too. The way the characters are portrayed/cast in the movie are what make it a fun movie to watch though. By the way, London seems like a pretty great city but I wouldn't sell Chicago short!

Master Of Puppets. Although Justice does have it's moments.

Yeah, like towards the end of the title track where they play the intro distorted and it sounds like the old Legend of Zelda theme. Priceless!

i'll concede that master of puppets is better but both qualify as essential.
