My roommate, JP, is a great guy and he and I are great roommates. Which occasionally amazes me since I tend toward the messy and he toward the neat and organized. If you ask him where something is he knows; he knows where things are because he always puts them away. His room is neat, his bed always made. I love New York but...
I love living in New York. I really, really do. But sometimes New York is too loud and too impersonal. Sometimes it feels much too dirty and gritty and industrial. So far removed from nature. And sometimes I miss tree lined streets. I miss the smell of flowers growing in a neighbor's garden. I miss parks that have miles and miles of trails through ( Read more... ) -

Happy 4th of July!
Yesterday I didn't have to work so I hopped on the subway a little after 9am and went to Brighton Beach. Unfortunately the threat of rain made me retreat from the beach twice and the storms never materialized. But I still managed about 2 hours lying out and a few minutes of swimming ( Read more... ) -
Fun with subtitling.
For reasons beyond me the dvd player in my apt automatically turned on the subtitles when I put "The Big Chill" on tonight. And the dvd remote doesn't work so I've just had to deal with the subtitles which I find frustrating. Mainly I find it frustrating because the subtitles never really match up to what's said. Words are omitted, the odd sentence ( Read more... ) -

On my way to work this morning a man got on my car with a bag and announced he worked for a christian homeless shelter - I've been on the train with him before and know his deal. He has food, usually fruit, and drinks with him. He says "you don't need to be homeless to be hungry" and asks if anyone on the train is hungry. He will give you food or ( Read more... ) -

I didn't get home from LIC until about 2:30 on Saturday morning which was considerably later than I'd anticipated getting home. Consequently I slept later than I otherwise would have and JFS and I decided not to go to the High Line.
