Just a thought I'd let you all ponder this while I'm off at school:
(:

Do you believe that humans are born good but do bad things or that they are born bad but do good things? Which do you believe and why?

i think i believe in the first one, everyone is born good in nature, it's the way that they brought up, the environment that they're exposed to that could
lead humans to become a bad person and thus do bad things...there's a local proverb that is common used here among Malay people here, i'm not sure how to
exactly translate it word by word but it says that the new born children is like a clean white cloth, and that the parents is responsible for the colors
and whatever patterns that they want to decorate that cloth...it simply means that the parents is responsible to what will become of the child, but of
course it's not suitably adaptable to the world today as we have school, friends and everything that is also a major factors to what personality we chose to
become, whether a good one or bad...i just don't believe that humans are born bad=)

have you seen babies when they're in nurseries or anything? sometimes they gang up and pick on the smallest baby (and i'm talking about babies who aren't even a year old yet!).
it was in the news a while back, that a baby sitter left the nursery to use the restroom just for a minute and when she got back, she saw all the babies on top of and teething one poor baby. as soon as they saw the babysittter back in the room, they all stopped and acted as if nothing had happened.
yes, i do think the parents are responsible for how children grow up to be, but they don't teach their children to be bad. who taught us to be bad? i wasn't taught that, yet i'm a selfish person. >.< *hates to admit it* i've got pride issues, but my parents didn't teach me that.

well that's really news to me, i've never heard that before...BTW you really keep me wondering the whole day,LOL. Well in my opinion i think humans just can't get away from some bad characteristics, like you mentioned yourself, selfish for example, or being jealous to other people's success or whatever, i mean everyone have those bad behaviors even for a 'lil, it's natural i think...and i think it then comes to the faith or religion that we believes in that could control our behaviors, like instead of getting jealous to some other people and trying to bring that person down, there maybe some rules or guidelines that we believe in our life that forbid us from doing that and instead to be happy for that person..

You know, in many cases, not the parents/family are/is the main influence in a children's life. Many children learn some bad behaviours while being at school or playing outside, with friends. They get easily in contact with loads of persons, and each of those tends to leave a mark on the child's psichology.

I believe that we are good in nature as well. I think that outside influences, and perhaps, seldom, the genes, are the main factors responsible for the bad deeds we do.

I don't think there is a choice. I believe all souls are good, but as we're all part of one big story, they play the part of evil - but no one is truly evil.

ha. you were brave in posting this question! :) (i was scrolling down through some of your previous posts...)

we are born bad, but can do good things. ever since the Fall of man, all people have been born with original sin - therefore in a way it goes against our sin nature to do good. but when we accept Christ, He is able to work through us, and we can do good things for Him... that's the short version of my answer... :)

hehehe, yeah. :P

it's so weird! i've been learning that God chose us, we didn't choose Him. He uses everyone to show His glory and power. i love it!
