when you want to comment on specific comments left on other people's posts...you press "reply to this." otherwise the email doesn't get sent to me that you're talking to me and only valerie(or whichever user) gets notified. same goes for the other comment you left on my post where me and arial had started a thread...and you pressed "reply to this" under the comment ariel made both she and i would be notified that you commented, whereas since you pressed "post a new comment" only i will be notified. it's polite and it keeps people notified.
