it also matters WHEN the story was published. it's not the same if you published something in 2010, or 2022.

True. But I uploaded my whole "back catalog" back to back and it's backdated properly. So let's say, I uploaded those stories in 2020 and backdated them 10 years. So they all start with similiar chances - they're old stories buried in the deepest pit of the archive. Fluctuation in fandom of interest should play a role here.

You just never know what will really strike at the readers' fancies. With some of my stories, the number of hits vs amount of effort I put into it feels completely off, but other stories have had a satisfying number of hits.

We won't talk about actual comments. LOL Those are way, way down from the "elder" days. XD

Yeah, that's VERY true. It's not even that I'm complaining. Yeah, it's great to see the hits go up and notice that people read your stories. But in the end I write for myself. I guess it's just interesting to see the difference between how you perceive your story and how everyone else perceives your story.
