Alright, if that teensy thing Cordy needed to fix was so teensy, why isn't she back yet? I called Buffy to see what was up, and she didn't seem to know anything about it. Yes, Cordy's staying with her but they don't seem to be spending much time together. So the good news is there's no budding apocalypse in Sunnydale, but then what the hell is ( Read more... )

I can see Angel sittin’ downstairs broodin’ from my vantage point on the balcony on the second floor, looks as though he’s tryin’ to decide somethin’ and judging from the huff F’s been in, he’s lookin’ to find some answers. “Woody said you were lookin’ for me?”

I look up and smile at her. She's really starting to come out of her shell lately. "I was going to go see if I could dig up some info and wondered if you wanted to come along. Check out some seedy demon bars--could be a lot of fun," I say, trying to sound tempting.

“Throw in the possibility of somethin’ alcoholic and that sounds like a good night,” I tease, raisin’ an eyebrow at him. I walk down the stairs to the second floor. “Is this about that woman?” I try to sound casual ‘bout it but can’t seem to hide the cheer in my voice. F ain’t the only one that wants to catch up with her.

I slip on my purple jacket an’ look aroun’ for the others. Looks like it’s just the two of us, ‘less Woody wants to come along, but he seems more like to want to talk to me alone. So I guess I’ll catch ‘em when we get back.

"Yeah, the mystery woman who got in Faith's face--I think we need to find out what she's doing," I say, getting up and going to join her. I stop by the weapons cabinet and take out a few choice items that are easy to hide, tucking them into the pockets of my coat. "You don't just decide to mess with a slayer without having some...bigger agenda, and whole lot of balls. So I figure she might have been mouthing off around town. She seems sloppy."

I'd gotten the feeling Wood was keeping a lot to himself, too, but I understand how that goes. "He hasn't been with the group long, maybe that's what you're sensing," I say. "Takes time to feel like you're a part of it, I guess."

I stop in front of the blackened bricks and shake my head. I know this area well enough; the demons living around here were mostly the harmless variety, last time I'd looked. "There's a bar around the corner," I say. "Someone in there might know something."

"True," I agree while he takes a look at the blackened bricks.

"Right," I nod, lettin' Angel take the lead. 's only fair, this bein' his town an' all. "I wanna know, whadda ya plan to do with this woman when you find her?"

"That--I don't know," I admit. "I want to know who she is and why she's messing with Faith and then I guess I'll figure it out." I lead the way around the corner, onto the street and partway down the block. It's not the most luxurious bar in the world, and a lot of shady types hang out here, but I'm counting on that. I swear under my breath--the regular bartender isn't in sight. "Maybe ask around, describe her to people, see if anyone's seen her?" I suggest.

“On it,” I grin, walkin’ over to some demons on the right side of the bar. Some o’ them are cowerin’. Good, means I got their attention. The first few seem to geniunely know nothing, but two o’ them look liked they crapped their pants as I was describin’ the girl. Hell, I think they did crap their pants.

“You might wanna talk up, my hearin’ gone a little south since I got here,” posturin’ an’ threatenin’ can only go so far, and I’m startin’ to get bored…

“Can’t believe your car got torched, talk ‘bout loosin’ a part of yourself, hunh?” I say, gettin’ into the passenger seat. “toy. Pyromaniacs, the lot o’ ya. My first -an’ only-Watcher set him self on fire. Did I tell ya’ that? Big blaze, couldda taken out all o’ Haddyn if I hadn’t gone for a swim with him.” I shake my head, if it weren’t for him bein’ crazy and settin’ himself on fire we couldda been friends. Shyeah, right.

"Wow, that must have been--he did it to himself?" I shudder as I get in and start the engine. The things the girl has been through amaze me. "Yeah, I miss that old boat. I'm looking for a replacement, but it was special, you know? Not just anything will do. And I still don't know who did it or why." I pull away and head back toward the hotel.

“Yu-huh, turns out the--” Lookers? Seers? “Watcher folk went all crazy waitin’ for the demons to come back.”

“Could be a random thing, punk kids, or somethin’. But I understand your meanin’.” Hell, I’ve still got a drawing on the refrigerator Loo did for me, ain’t got the heart to take it down.

"Wow, guess they're an unstable bunch compared to the ones we have now. Must be hard for you, not having the backup when you need it." In spite of difference with Giles and Wes in the past, he knew they provided invaluable knowledge to the people they worked with, whether it was the scoobies or his own group.
