On Doctor Who Series Thirty-One

Oooo, wasn't it good? No, I mean really. ALL HAIL THE GREAT AND POWERFUL MOFF!

Yeah. Anyway.

  • The Moff had a thing running through the series that actually paid off in a satisfying, understandable way.
  • The Daleks and Cybermen were established as forces in the universe and were not wiped out completely, as was RTD's (irritating) wont every bloody series.
  • The Autons (or, rather, the Nestines) were actually threatening again - for the first time in thirty years.
  • The Silurians were back, cool and not evil. I haven't seen the originals, so I have no emotional investment in the changes that were (necessarily, I think) made.
  • Amy was adorable. Sometimes a little bit "silent movie heroine" but I liked her.
  • Development of River Song's back-story - and her being a very shaggable Ripley archetype. Don't tell me it was just me. I won't believe you.
  • The setting up of an ensemble cast, generally - playing to The Moff's strengths. I see Amy, Doctor, River and Rory being a regular cast for some time (or at least another series) yet. Like the 5th Doc's era, but with an interesting Doctor. :-)
  • Two historical characters played well in interesting stories. Particular note to old-school (thematically) Daleks and mature mental health story.
  • "Dell" Daleks - I like them. Shut up. I trust the Moff.
  • Time travel stories (particularly the finale!) I love stories that actually involve time travel - and the Moff is the only one who actually writes them. Woot!
  • The finale was excelent - a little hand-wavy, but well-written hand-wavy - I guessed some bits and not others. I thought it rocked.
I think that's all. Overall, I loved this series, and I can't wait to see an Egyptian Goddess on the Orient Express in Space!

Also yay watching all of this series with ephrael!
