Joanna Yeates .
While her murder is sad and the police should do everything reasonable in their power to catch the killer, it seems ridiculous to have calls for
women to stay indoors after dark and
all men in Bristol to give DNA samples when
over 500 people are murdered each year.
Not to mention that there was already
national coverage when she was only missing: The number of missing people in the UK is estimated at
over 200,000 . 3/4 of these will still be missing after 48 hours. 1% will still be missing after 1 year (which is still over 2,000 people - over 6 a day)
Why does this one case get 100 times the coverage of the others: could it be because she is young, white and attractive?
(For similar effects note how the McCaan kid is still grabs more headlines than the 100,000 kids that go missing in the UK each year.)
