Ten years

Jan 01, 2015 19:25

I'm doing better than most. I'm not bragging. I'm really not. But, if I'm doing well, it has nothing to do with the loudest or even the youngest of us. In all reality, it was Marius who taught me most about surviving on my own. How to grow my wealth, how to grow my art. How to live without a father ( Read more... )

You fail to mention how good you are for him, too, but I hope you don't fail to see it. The obvious differences between the two of you mask the ways in which you are alike. When you and he crumble, you do it inwardly, revealing barely any outward sign of it at all, determined to internalise the storm until it passes. Both of you, all grace and dignity, to the very end.

It makes me so glad that you have each other. That you have someone to see past the illusion of effortless calm and contentment, to what is really going on below. That is what allows you to support each other, to teach and to learn from each other. The holy grail of any friendship, between your kind or mine; mutual understanding, wrapped up in acceptance and love.

Ten years? Has it been so long? Oh, but I believe it. I was very young. Blissfully ignorant and delightfully stupid. And you know, if I had my time again, I wouldn't change any part of it.

Love you, Daniel. x

You know me, sugarplum. I couldn't see the positive energy I brought to the cat that insists he's mine, despite the number of times I've slammed the door on him. He still crawls in through the window from the balcony like he owns the place. Such is life. When one door closes, a window, and all that.

If I bring him happiness in any measure, I'm glad for it. Gladder, still, for the love you bring, starshine. I've missed you.

I have two very serious questions for you, now--

1) When I wear infinity scarves (you know how I love them), do I look like a Gucci model?
2) Will you go see this guy with me? I think you'd love him and there's nothing like seeing him alive. I mean, live. -cough- How Freudian of me.

Love you, too, peaches. Let's do this, yeah?

Very serious, hm? Well, then, without any further ado -

1. I wish I knew whether you were courting a 'yes' or a 'no' to that question. I'm going to take the safe option and say quite truthfully that you look lovelier to me than any Gucci model, with infinity scarf or sans infinity scarf. Just promise me that you won't ever wear them with shorts and flip flops. You know I find that sort of thing migraine inducing.

2. I will go to see that man with you, but you will owe me a date of my own choosing. Something a little more like this...

I'd thought once, very seriously, about the cut-off shorts and flipflop look. It was back in the early 80s. Pre pastels and all that. Somehow, even with all the tacky traps that ensnared, I missed out on it. If you ask Marius, I'm sure he still has a few photos. Most of them are probably of Armand, but... if you squint, you might find me in the background rocking a popped collar. Oh yeah ( ... )

In truth, I would find such a friend wherever you are, टर्की.

And, if I can't offend a close friend, well, who can a man offend?

Drinks. When say you?
