Usually I'm the first one - given my leftist leanings - to take the political point of view that social unrest must initially be a symptom of inadequate governmental policies. However, I don't know if it's a sign of age or something, but in the case of all these riots in London and the other UK cities, I have no time for the point of view of the ( Read more... )

The apologists and the 'they're just misunderstood' bullshit just beggars belief.

People were burned out of their houses. God knows how many people have lost their livlihood as small businesses go under and chains just dont bother reopening. Then there's the fact that many shop workers live on the bread line as it is, what will a few days lost wages do to them even if their work does reopen?

And all because a bunch of fuckwits were bored and/or saw an opportunity for free trainers? Never mind trying to understand them what about us? Don't we have the right to feel safe and not worry we're about to be burned out our house?

And for all the hug a hoody types, the news that of the first people in court over this were blokes employed in good jobs, shows the riots had no social cause except greed.

The youths complaining about the police not showing them respect should learn they actually have to earn respect and they ain't going to do that with criminal behaviour.

I totally agree. I don't want to hear justification and I don't want anyone to tell me that they were protesting the social and political change. They weren't. You don't protest by stealing trainers and HD TVs. Just makes me so very angry...

Indeed! You dont protest with theft - especially as it now seems, from those arrested, a majority of the rioters/looters are employed and/or relatively wealthy. Nothing to do with outrage and all to do with getting something for nothing and being part of some moronic night out with your equally moronic friends.
