1. All the shops and restaurants open \o/. Rural France was shut ALL THE TIME and there were NO people in the streets AT ALL *CAPS LOCK JAZZ HANDS*. We all thought we were on holiday in either a) 28 Days Later land or b) The Hellmouth where everyone is a vampire or zombie and only emerges at night *hugs never-shuts London*

4. The start of the UK television broadcast of season 5 of True Blood (watching on the US schedule is for wimps with patience issues :p). If episode 1 is any indication, it looks to be the season where I may have to start shipping Eric Northman and Bill Compton *coughcannonslashcough*

I'll happily admit to being a wimp, then. TB season 5 is fabuloso.

I love this show and always look forward to it with great anticipation (though I manage not to wimp out *g*).

I can see the Eric/Bill bromance this season is going to keep me in high pitched squee mode for the whole 12 eps :)

1. Was it for some reason specific to the season? Or do you think it's always like that? I remember when we went to Australia, we were shocked to find all the shops closed at 6:00 (at least I think it was 6:00, it might have been 5:00). There was apparently a law in place mandating it... the only things open later, that we could find, were restaurants.

The smaller towns seemed to completely close for 2 hours for lunch - including the restaurants!! The bigger towns did too but to a lesser extent. But even when it wasn't lunch time there seemed to be no one about in the streets (on foot) at all. So I have no idea. The usual holiday season is August and I was there mid September, so I have no clue why everywhere was so deserted. *clings to my urban lifestyle*
