The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Starts off with a book called Storm Front

Haven't read any new Scifi in a while really. Um... if you haven't read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson that is an excellent book. It's probably more cyber-punk specifically, but it's good.

Actually, really really good. I super suggest it, and also Anne McCathery has some sci-fi stuff out there, can't remember names at the moment "Crystal Singer" maybe... good stuff.
