Push, Coraline, Fanboys

Playing some catch up during Oscar commercial breaks.

Push

Its actually been a couple weeks since I saw this, but I really enjoyed it. This was very much a Dawn Dawn movie. Fun, action filled, decent enough story, very pretty. Seriously, the cinematography was really good. (Now that I've gotten a decent handle on identifying a good director, Im trying to pay more attention to cinematography) And speaking of director, I need to keep an eye out for Paul McGuigan. And as I IMDB-ed him just now, I have learned that he also directed Lucky Number Slevin, which is actually in my top ten. So yes, must keep an eye out for him. I also loved the choice of setting it in Hong Kong. They could have so easily gone with the cliche choice of NYC, but this setting added such a great dynamic and allowed for some very vibrant colors. Like I said, very pretty.

Nothing too special on the acting front. I love Chris Evans, mostly cause he's pretty. And I like pretty things. Dakota Fanning weirded me out more than anything. Just cause she's suddenly twice the size she was the last time we saw her.

And Im getting too distracted to think of anything else to say about this one.

Coraline
Another very pretty movie. And very much my style. It was just such a fun escape of a kiddie movie, especially since it was about a sort of escape type of movie. And I just wanna take this opportunity to say that I want Other Wybie to be my best friend.

The visuals were so pretty, although they didnt really do too much with the 3-D. Except for the tunnel and a few other things here and there, I dont really think I got too much more out of it because of the 3d.

And again, this is why I shouldnt wait a week to write movie reviews, cause I forget shit.

Fanboys
I have been waiting over two freaking years for this movie. I've been a fan of his since my teenybopper days when he was in Jungle2Jungle, so I've known this flick was on the horizon for a while. Now here's the part where I prove that in my sad existence I spend too much time on IMDB. When the movie was ready to be released way back then, because a big part of the storyline is that the reason they're breaking into Skywalker Ranch to see the film is cause one of the fanboys is dying of cancer and has 3-4 months to live. The movie will be relased in 6. Harvey Weinstein, being the ass that he is, decided that he didnt like this part of the storyline, and recut the movie to remove all references to this plotline. And people got mad. Really mad. There were all sorts of petitions and threats to boycott. The movie finally got released, a bit under the radar. And no one knew beforehand if the cancer storyline would be in there. Dear readers, I am happy to inform you that yes, the cancer storyline was included. And it was such the perfect touch for this movie. It gave them a real purpose, so that they werent just impatient douchebags. And its also a nice distinction from most of the rest of the "dumb" buddy comedies that are out there (not that there's anything wrong with them. God knows I love my Judd Apatow flicks).

Now that that's out of the way, OMG this movie was hi-freakin-larious. One disclaimer though, you need to have a decent knowledge of Star Wars to find any of it funny. And you need to have at least a minimal appreciation for fandom in general. But I dont expect that to be a problem for most of you who would be reading this. In fact, my lovely f-list, I expect ya'll to find this as hiliarious or even more so than I did.

This isnt exactly the type of film you comment on the acting. But I do wanna say that there were some GREAT cameos. I wont get spoileristic with it, tho.

Timmy (who was my movie buddy this time around) would like to add that his "face melted from its awesomeness. And that one day [he] would like to do what they did"

I would like to end this by saying that the last line of the movie was the best possible way to have concluded it. I wont spoil it, but it was what I was what I was thinking thru the whole film.
