I really wanted to like this movie. Going into it, I had no doubt in my mind that I'd enjoy it, and that I'd be laughing my head off the whole time. As it turns out, the best part about the movie was that it was preceded by trailers for Year One and Funny People. Oh I did like the opening sequence. Dont know why I've had such a fetish lately for stylized openings. And it just got worse from there.
Seriously, it makes me so sad to type this out right now. I absolutely love Seth Rogen. I absolutely hated his character. And when you hate the character that takes up 95% of the screen time, you got a problem. Now I dont necessarily think he did a bad job. I think his character was just written to be too much of a douche bag. And something about his character's persistence had a bit of a nightmarish vibe to it, but that might just be cause I've been reading Stephen King this week. I think, and part of me cant believe Im saying this, a bit more Anna Faris might've been really helpful. I know that girl can be funny, but she wasnt given much to work with.
Besides the cringe-inducing lead character, another one of its downfalls was simply that it wasnt funny, or at least I didnt think so. So it was going for offensive humor. And we all know I'm all for that. But they overdid the offensive and forgot the humor. To some extent, it looked like they were trying to attempt the Family Guy formula of "Okay thats a bit funny...now its gone on for too long and I dont like it...OMG that's the funniest shit ever" and never quite got to the end. Either way, offensive humor with no cleverness, just there for the sake of offending just doesnt work, people.
So, um, yeah almost gone to see Dragonball. At least then I woulda been prepared for the awful. Okay maybe that comment was a bit harsh to both of them. Sorry Seth Rogen and sorry James Marsters. I didnt mean it...I think
