Summary: A quick peek into a battle with Yuushi vs Vampires.

Yuushi ran down the alley, taking a turn down another when he came across it as he tossed glances over his shoulder. He knew it wouldn’t do any good given what was chasing him but he had had a bit of a head start thanks to the attack he had thrown and smoke screen a smashed potion caused to help hide his movements. But it wouldn’t last long.

And he was right.

Nearly stumbling over his feet as he came to a skidding halt, Yuushi stood on guard, hands at the ready to weave his magic against the vampire giving a wicked grin as he blocked the path. He didn’t want to fight in this damn war and thought the entire thing was rather silly. Of course he didn’t mind if vampires packed up and left the area so peace would remain but the boundaries that had been in place for years were working well enough and let everyone exist in a city they all enjoyed.

The loss of life on their side was growing and with it, his pain. It tore at his soul to see so many promising young magic users killed off without batting an eye and it only raised the fear that one day he would be identifying Kenya’s body or even Zaizen’s simply for knowing them. But with every death, Yuushi started realizing there was no way out of the war and in the end, perhaps it was a good thing. There would always be the hate amongst their kinds and even while he knew some decent vampires might exist, he had to admit that they acted like barbarians living by their own rules and not caring who they trampled on.

The fact that defenceless humans like Zaizen were the prime food source of vampires and the ones that populated Tokyo the most was what got Yuushi to hang up his morals and fight with everything he had night after night. It was why he wasted no time in calling up his shield that surrounded his body without incantation and why his fingers crackled with blue energy.

“Aww, look at that, Ryousuke, the little witch is trying to glow in the dark to make it easier for us to find him.” The vampire in front of Yuushi taunted which in turn drew his attention to the fact the other vampire had come up behind him, trapping him in the middle of the alley.

“He’s so precious, Yoshi. He thinks he can fight us. Who does he think he is to take us down? The pathetic witch leader?” The one behind him was quickly earning the honour of dying first but Yuushi decided they could share the death and turned so they were on either side of him as he stared at the dirty brick wall.

“Close, Ryousuke, wasn’t it? I’m friends with the leader and essentially the second in command when I feel like doing my job. It’s a shame you won’t be able to tell anyone any of this however,” with a crook of his mouth into a sly grin, Yuushi lifted both arms, fingers pointing at the vampires and shot out icicles that manifested with ease, sending them sailing toward the vampires that had been too arrogant and young to react.

They would have looked like pin cushions if they hadn’t crumbled and died as icicles had found their marks in the bastards’ hearts.

“Young boys no matter the species have no place in a war,” Yuushi stated to no one but the breeze swirling around the alley as he shook off the magic from his fingers and reached into a pocket to pull out the non-prescription glasses he wore as part of a look he liked to maintain.

With only a couple hours left until sunrise, Yuushi started back to his apartment building. He was tired from another night of fighting and longed to see his dear cousin and hold him. Knowing that Kenya was safe always eased the stress of the night and allowed him to catch a few hours of sleep.

His life would shatter if anything happened to Kenya. He had already spent too much of his life parted from the rowdy man and he’d be damned if he let anyone ever separate them again without a say in the matter.
