He had never expected to have fallen for the hellion of a woman. It shouldn't have been a surprise, though, with the ease in which she seemed to fit his personality and his her's. In a way Carolyn was a calming force having pulled in him from fights that should have ended with someone on the ground. The first time it had ever happened had shaken him to the core- his fist raised in anticipation of smacking the guard down who had insulted her. Only her saying his name had kept him from being kicked out or arrested and it was then that he knew. Even if he wouldn't admit it out loud he was in love with her

It had been a long assed day. Long in the sense that work seemed to go so slow Hannibal didn't know if he was dying from boredom or what. By the time he had gotten home it was late, the kids upstairs asleep long before he had even considered being able to punch the clock out for the day. He was quiet as he could be when he walked through the kitchen, dropping his coat on to the closest chair with his dusty work boots following. Dinner had long been cold, left covered on the table for him, and the tv in the living room left on probably before Aryn had crawled off to bed

The desert night was cool. Zoe was asleep in the cab if the truck, sprawled out across the front seat, leaving Aryn and Hannibal in the bed. He could hear the little girl's gentle breathing in her sleep as the two adults stared up at the blanketed nights sky. There weren't any streetlights where they were. Just the moon and stars overhead and with the clear night sky they could see everything as the world turned

There was something about being out and about in the world with Angela that made everything brighter. Perhaps it was the way she looked at the world, the way she picked up on the vivid life that everything seemed to have, or the good she brought out in everyone. Hannibal couldn't have told a person anything about the festival that was going on downtown that Ange had asked him to go with her to. Fall was in the air, the briskness that made the air crisp with the changing of the leaves brought out the fiestyness in everyone- even him
