A partial list of things that annoy me

1. People who use DIAF (Die In A Fire) when describing a minor annoyance. It's overkill, and it seems to be very common in several LJ communities I read ( Read more... )

A coworker once wrote a note to me which ended:

I'm so burned out by all of this and want it over soon!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!

which didn't seem really appropriate and which led to me writing this on alt.religion.kibology back in 2003:

I wonder if some day someone will find a note saying something like this:

| To all my so-called friends (you know who you are lol!!!!!),
|
| It's no use. ;-P I've tried to pretend that everything's fine but I
| just can't take it any more!! :-)))))))))))) Oh, how I long for
| death's sweet embrace. LOL!!!!!
|
| Do not blame yourselves, as there is nothing you could have done.
| ROTFL!!! It is better this way!!!! ^ ^
|
| WPR,
| Chris X. Public
| LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How could anyone not appreciate how awesome Brian is?

It boggles the mind, doesn't it? He's so obviously awesome, but every once in a while people just fail to comprehend his spiffitude.

There will always be people who don't like just about everyone but I still can't comprehend not liking Brian. He's great!

I've never seen anyone use DIAF but it sounds like hate speech. How disturbing.

Anyway, you guys are all awesome and I send my love!

(For the record, that's an old Calvin & Hobbes joke.)

No, my car needs $800 of work to be drivable again, and probably $2,000 to be completely fixed. I don't have that now, so I've putting off the decision of whether to fix it or just write the whole thing off.

One of the big things I use Wikipedia for these days is tracking down allusions and cultural references in movies and TV shows. Some of that is exactly that kind of "word of mouth" data that Wikipedia wants to stamp out.

-9. The trend on Wikipedia toward deleting everything that doesn't fit into more and more narrowly defined "notability" guidelines. I find this particularly annoying in areas such as Geographical, RPG, and Indigenous Peoples entries that may rely more on oral traditions and word of mouth than published peer reviewed so-called "reliable third party" sources.

Agreed, there's other areas I've seen that in and there's little to recommend for it.

I am glad of the expansion of wikia and similar to put the information elsewhere.
