I received one of the leaflets through my letterbox yesterday, and I can safely say it ruined my day. I will be voting against, and am probably going to write letters to whoever will listen ("no" campaign ( Read more... )

The Council wins by charging for permits, Pay & Display and dispatching wardens to the area on a regular basis the same as has happened in Ecclesall and Broomhill.

There's a lively thread on SForum you might be interested in!

Haha, I see you are wading in there - welcome to rantyland!

It's noticeable that one of the usual pro-Hillsborough Community voices on there is strangely silent on the matter. It makes me wonder if the only group that already has the organisation to co-ordinate a campaign is firmly in the Council's pockets these days.

I've been waiting for the opportunity to object to this ever since I first heard rumours of it being considered. I hope people consider all the implications, especially those who live on roads where both sides are parked, with the cars on one side half on the curb (like Beechwood Road etc) as the council will only put in bays on one side of the road, effectively halving the parking spaces. I'm hopeful that our street won't go for it - most of our problems are caused on match days and by people who own drives not bothering to use them and parking on the street instead...

Though that sort of means that all the extra cars are just going to park on our road!

Yep. Apparently now the council are saying that it will be done on a street by street basis - which will displace parking from affected streets to those not affected.

What happens if my parents what to come and visit me for a few days?

As a non-driver, this is the main one that concerns me. Fair credit to the Council - Whatever other problems there might be with the scheme, they have at least thought of this. Residents can buy temporary one-day permits in advance for less than the pay & display fees.

Actually, I quite like the idea of applying for permits and selling them on to the neighbours... for a small price ;o)

You can't, you have to have proof that the vehicle is registered at that address.

So that would scupper the idea of giving my parents my (unused) permit when they come to visit?

If it is like the other schemes then the reg number is printed on the permit.

Please let me know if there is any "no" campaign I can get involved in. I've not yet looked at the questionnaire but as far as I can tell this scheme involves me paying an undisclosed sum of money in order to be no more likely to be able to park anywhere near my house. It's bad enough as it is without the council getting involved.
