That Bloody Woolas F***wit again!!!

There was a programme on telly last night about migrant workers, unemployed british people and the correlation between the two. I found the show quite fascinating, as in my simple mind, it didn't try to make any big arguments. Rather, they found some unemployed people that were willing to do the jobs of some migrants for a few days, and documented ( Read more... )

and when given a job, never showed up...

If you pay people for doing nothing, then they will do nothing.

Now sports.

Did you watch said show? You'd have loved it.

No, I didn't - I may take a look on iPlayer, though.

Is that 'loved it' in the sense of 'enjoy', or in the sense of 'raised to sheer apopleptic fury'?

Prolly a bit of both. I think you like a bit of fury.

This was hot topic gossip in our office today. (Obviously!) It's worth noting, (not because you made the argument, I hasten to add, but because a lot of people seem to have missed the obvious and made massive social generalisations) that people who up sticks and move nations in order to work hard don't necessarily represent the average work ethic of their home nation.

I'm off to watch it now, it certainly sounds fascinating!

I saw the programme it was interesting and embarrasing, I've said all along I don't care who comes into the country as long as they are prepared to work and pay taxes etc.
What we don't need is people coming here who won't work as we have enough home grown scroungers in this country already and that programme proved it.

I can't comment on the programme afterwards as I didn't watch it.

It's pretty hard to come here and not work. Well, unless you're a refugee, in which case it can be years while the Home Office sit on your case and twiddle their thumbs and forbid you from working while they decide whether to send you back or not. But they don't get to claim most of our benefits while they're here so they're not really a blight per se. And they're a tiny, tiny proportion of migrants ( ... )

You might be interested in some comments that Frank Field (lab) made on the today programme on the morning of that show. He effectively said that welfare was 'another budget', and a place for potential cuts to be made.

If Labour put Frank Field in charge, I'd vote for them without blinking.

You can say what you like about Phil Woolas, but he's still a million times better than his predecessor.

If he stops acting like a disinterested prick then I'll stop bashing him. If you know the man you might want to let him know what he looks like on telly.

Can't speak for the predecessor - although he does look a bit like Himmler in the picture.
