Well, I heard back today. There's nothing obvious in his blood, urine or fecal, so the next step is an ultrasound to check for cancer. We probably won't do that, though, because he's so old that we wouldn't put him through chemo treatment, so it would just be spending money to confirm something we can't treat. If he were younger, maybe, but at his age I doubt treatment would even be effective, and would only give him a year or so more at the most, anyway. Plus, the side effects of chemo can be harsh, and why not let him live out the rest of his life as easily and comfortably as possible, you know?

Our vet totally agrees, which is one of the reasons I love her so much. So she's starting him on prednisone to see if it helps, and then we'll go from there. He's old, and we've known this was coming, so it's not as sudden as Ezra's illness came on. It'll still suck when the time comes, but I'm more ready and at peace about it.
