NaNoWriMo 2011!

Nov 29, 2011 23:15

Woo! I finished NaNoWriMo today, a day early. I did a post about it on van_writing if you're so inclined to read it there.

I did a Wordle for all 50,000 words afterward to post, and I realized that I'd never done Wordles for my completed NaNo attempts before. Usually it's something I do around 25-30,000 words as a form of procrastination. XD So, for fun ( Read more... )

First: Congrats!

Second: I did these for my three big things (my NaNo novel, plus the one I finished earlier this year, and my fic novel) and was amused. Taking out the character names was enlightening, too. I apparently overuse "little" to a rather ridiculous degree.

Thank you! :D

It really is an interesting tool to use to see how you write. You can tell that I used to grossly over use "looked" (see the Took the Sky Wordle), which Wordle showed me and which I've curbed. I can see ways to cut down on "back" and "like" as well, so I plan to do that, as well. I mean, mostly it's just a fun thing to look at, but it's cool it tells me stuff about myself, as well. I also like that you can sort of get an idea of some of the stories if you read all the words. "Water" for instance, has "pueblo" and "colorado" and "river" and "trunk" and things like that, vs. "The Coffee War" which is all ship, crew, city, weird place names, war, sea, sail, etc.

Anywaaaay. WORDS!!!

Wooo, reason to use this old icon again!

And I know it's been ages, but congrats! Getting to 50,000 words early has to feel good, much less having something coherent. And hey, I still read Pr fanfic, so no need to feel bad for writing it. Hope all has been good with you!

Thank you! And yay revising old icons!! It does always feel awesome getting to 50k, which is one of the perks of doing NaNo. Real pat-on-the-back time! And it really lights the fire under my butt and gets me to put down all my stories. One day I'll share them with the world! XD

Some of my very favorite stories are mentioned here. ♥♥♥ Reflections is AWESOME! I am head over heals in love with 'The Pursuit of Happiness' and I adore 'Took The Sky' and 'The Coffee War'.

Completely unrelated, but have you signed up for fandom-stocking this year?

Congratulations! :D I still have 1750 words to go...hoping to be done by lunchtime. The novella is already complete (it was only intended to be about 50-60000 words) so I'm adding a related short story, filling out the background of one of the minor characters, to make up the wordcount :)

1750 is nothing! I suspect by the time you read this you'll be done! Adding a related short story is a better idea than trying to stuff unnecessary scenes in like I've sometimes done! GO YOU! :D

Congrats on finishing! These Wordles are fun. I might have to try, although the longest thing I've ever written is only in the 20,000+ range and very incomplete.

Also, your descriptions make me want to read all of your original fic, especially Water. Are they at van_writing? I suppose I should go take a look :P

Thank you! 20,000 words is a lot, though! Definitely enough for a Wordle, as you saw. They're really fun! Sort of goofy, but I like how you can sort of tell what the stories are about by examining the words closely, and seeing what you overuse, etc.

You flatter me with the comments on wanting to read the stuff, hahaha. "Water" isn't posted anywhere, but if you're really interested I could email you it. All of "The Coffee War" is posted to van_writing though, and I believe all of what I wrote for NaNoWriMo on "The Pursuit of Happiness" is posted as well. ("The Coffee War" was edited before being posted, but "PoH" is in the original "vomited forth for NaNo" format, even though I've since edited it and added more to it.) I have the first 8,000 words of "A Place in Time" here. (Though it has also been edited since then ( ... )
