Dear Internet,

I have spent the last few days furiously working on these things to get them ready in time for Gallifrey One in two weeks; now I need your opinion.

Trying to imagine if it was something I liked, like, say, a Frank-N-Furter magnet. In that case... at least $10?

Ahahahaha, yes, imagine they are of characters you really love if you don't know/like Doctor Who.

$10 seems a lot to me! I'd certainly like to charge that much but I'm afraid they wouldn't sell at that price...

I guess I was also imagining them bigger and totally ignored the 4"-5" part! In that case... okay... $7? Hahaha.

Hahaha, yeah, I'm taking another shot with a pencil in it for scale.

Heeee. :D (A Frank-N-Furter could certainly be made...)

AAH I LOVE THEM I adore five especially, though nine will always hold a special place in my heart. I would absolutely buy them, though I'm not sure on sticker prices. FYI, these would make really adorable badges too if you have access to a laminate machine. I've always done badges at cons for about $5. A price question would depend on your cost and what your input time is like, I would think. Without much other info, I'd probably say-- $7 each at that size? I pick that price based on estimating sticker sales at conventions to be at about $3-5 at that size range and magnet paper probably being more costly.

I've definitely considered the sticker route, too, and maybe in the future I'll branch out into stickers or laminates. Sadly I don't have access to a laminating machine, but I imagine printing stickers is similar to printing magnets--and yeah, probably cheaper per sheet than magnetic sheets.

I really appreciate your input, thank you!! And hopefully I'll have them available on Etsy as well, so even if you're not going to Gallifrey One you could pick up one. :D

For the record, the laminated badges are a profit monster. I bought my small laminate machine for $30. Pack of 100 business card sized sheets is about $15. I order stick-back clips for the badges because I can't for the LIFE of me find a hole punch that's sized like work badges are. Then it's just paper + printer ink. Total cost each, even factoring in the machine, is less than 50 cents a pop. Pricing at $5, and they are easily our best sellers. Stickers and buttons and magnets and little doohickies like that do so effing well.

I AM SO SAD I CANNOT GO TO GALLIFREY ONE YOU HAVE NO IDEA. Ugh. Next year when I'm living there, man. NEXT YEAR.

Wow, had no idea that laminating machines could be had so inexpensively these days! Thanks for that tip, very nice! Definitely sounds like a bigger profit than these, for sure. What do people do with the badges? I've never seen something like that for sale before. Just wear them around their necks?

YAY FOR GALLY NEXT YEAR!!!

Uhh, I feel bad about this, but I actually don't know who you are, ahaha. Are you a friend who changed their LJ name recently, or just someone I've forgotten? XD

Those are soooo cute! I would buy five or six of those.

I wouldn't have a clue what they're worth since your dollars are worth more than ours, you guys earn a lot more, and things are cheaper over there anyway: three ways we lose out.

How thick is the magnetic paper and how do you print on it?

Awwwww, yay~ I think they are pretty damn cute myself, but it's definitely nice to know other people agree. :D You're absolutely right that the USD is different to yours. *Googles* Looks like it's $1 USD to $1.2 NZD. That sucks. If I sold them for say $5USD it'd be $6 for you.

The magnetic paper is pretty thin. Maybe as thick as a coin? Hard to say since we have different coins than you. You print it just by feeding it one sheet at a time into the printer, so it prints like regular paper.

Even though our dollar is smaller and we don't earn as much, people who go to the US go crazy buying up the incredibly cheap clothes. :-P

That sounds quite thick. Does it have the black backing? I have some flexible magnetic stuff like that which I've stuck pictures to.

Awwww, hahaha, yeah. Well, I'm sure Americans go crazy buying weird stuff when they go to NZ, too!

And yes, it has the black magnetic backing. This is actually what I bought, if it helps.

Oh, those are really adorable, and I'd definitely consider buying several of them (I'm eyeing 5, 11 and Amy for a start -- and if you make Rory, I'd be in heaven). I'd also say in the $3-5 range, maybe with a discount if ppl buy in volume. So let's say $5 for 1, $8 or 9 for 2, $7 for 3, etc.

Yeah, I was definitely thinking about a discount for more, though I dunno how I'd do that with regards to Gallifrey One's art show pricing. A lot trickier there since they tend to want set prices. I will definitely consider it for selling on Etsy, though.

I hadn't done Rory yet because I wasn't thinking he'd be a big seller, but you're right. He's probably sell better than I expect. I imagine all new Who stuff will probably sell better than I expect, and I do love Rory so he'll be easier for me to draw than others. I'll add him to the list! :D

Oh, I didn't know that's how Gally's art show worked. Hmph. Maybe you can give people discounts afterwards? Definitely on Etsy though -- I think they'd be a big hit in general. :)

Rory's probably the most popular character on current Who. Even people who don't like the Moffat era seem to love Rory! Plus he's overlooked a lot (yes, I'm looking at YOU, Character Options. Where is the 5" Rory figure, damn it?!) so Rory merchandise is a big deal. I'm sure I can pimp you out to some of the folks on doctoreleven.

What's nice about Gallifrey is you've got a mix of both old and new fans so there's something for everyone. Of course, the attendance numbers have gone through the roof in the past 2 years so I'd expect a lot of them are there for 11, Amy, Rory and River (I know you don't like her much, but she WOULD sell. I'd definitely buy one of her!).

Yeah, the art show for Gally is like a silent auction, so it's hard to sell items at a set price. I hope they will allow me to set prices like that, but I just don't know how it'll work. I might be able to sell them in the print shop as "prints" but they charge a $1 commission on each print sold, in which case I'd want to add $1 to whatever price I decide on. Which isn't fair, really, but out of my hands. (I would sell them for the cheaper price on Etsy, though ( ... )
