The music was great, but the singer and lyrics were fairly pathetic

Well, the lyrics are the same ones from Lion's theme song to the 1986 Transformers: A Nelson Shin film. Quite a few acts, left out from the Official TF:AMBF soundtrack, have been dusting these lyrics off and launching covers. And more power to them, say I.

I will agree that the singer of the Black lab version sounds like he just got dragged out of bed and into the recording studio, though. :)
