The Rude Truth

I've noticed something occasionally in forum posts that has always frustrated me.  Today, I made the mistake of posting to said forum trying to shed light on the issue.  And I was immediately branded a troll.  I really should have seen it coming, to be quite frank.  And in retrospect, the person I was replying to was showing no interest in debating ( Read more... )

Calling someone out for being rude is not rude, nor is pointing that being honest does not mean you are not being rude. This is just the cesspool that is discourse on the Internet these days. Thinking you can convince people through logic is a trap.

The good thing, and what I find particularly liberating, is that the opinions of anyone you don't care about don't mean a thing.

I also don't think you should have done nothing. That kind of inaction is why this attitude is so prevalent. Well, that and FOX News (no offense :)) convincing people being loudest means being right.

That is the tricky part: the Internet's attempts at being open and accepting to all is somehow also what allows the most hateful (both in the sense of intolerance and of intolerability) to thrive - its very substance is its undoing.
