The Black Light Lounge - open DJ decks!

Apr 13, 2007 15:07

Here`s a new thing we`re going to explore with Sanctuary. Anyone and everyone is invited to take part in it. Thoughts / comments?

Sign up. Show up. Amplify!

On regular Sundays at the Red Room, the second room at Sanctuary is The Black Light Lounge and is available to anyone who wants to come and offer up some music, regardless of genre. No experience neccessary! There's a few strings attached, of course, but that's the nuts and bolts of it! The room is the perfect size for a bit of dancing if the mood takes people, but it's also nice and intimate if you prefer to take the opportunity to play music not dictated by the needs of a club dancefloor.

There are four one-hour slots per night. As long as all four slots are claimed, The Black Light Lounge is open! You can claim anywhere from one to all four slots per night, but if more than one person wants to play it's max two slots each.

This is a strictly volunteer for-fun endeavour. In return anyone playing a slot obviously gets on the guest list for the night, plus two guest list spots for friends!

I want to come and play! How do I sign up?

The Black Light Lounge opens 10-2 and has four guest spots any night we are open, all one hour long each : 10-11, 11-12, 12-1, 1-2. You are more than welcome to pair up with other people to co-DJ a block. Contact me through any means, via email (pandemonium@netrover.com), myspace (http:///www.myspace.com/djpandemonium / http:///www.myspace.com/sanctuarypwns), in person, or just leave a post where I can see it, and your request will be submitted.

What am I allowed / not allowed to play?

Play whatever you want, whether it's old school goth, 80's, noise, pop, punk, rockabilly, ambient, metal, live PA electronica or laptop noodling, jungle, psytrance, breaks, circus music ... whatever! We do ask that you have some kind of a loose theme for each set, even if its a mix of styles, so people will know what to expect. When requesting a slot, a short sentence describing what you want to play will suffice.

No experience neccessary!

If you have skills, great, but if you've never touched DJ gear before, don't worry. We won't teach you to beatmix in one sitting, but we'll give you the crash course before your slot. Simply presenting one song after another is as easy as making your home CD player play songs, and The Black Light Lounge at its core is simply about people presenting music. Anything people want to bring to it beyond that is just gravy!

Please honour your commitments!

If you sign up for a DJ spot and don't show up, consider yourself blacklisted from the Black Light Lounge!

(Disclaimer - All decisions on who gets what slot are made unilaterally by ME and are of course weighted by things like who asks first, who has shown the most commitment and enthusiasm for the night in the past, and so on!)
