Appearance

So...for all of the people who play rpgs, you know how there is an appearance stat?  Well, I was thinking that not everyone finds the same thing attractive.  For instance, Brian never looks at a girl from the neck up so why would her appearance matter to him?  Then there are people who prefer a certain skin color or hair color, body type, all that

I agree there is certainly a fair amount of variation. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think depending on the game, appearance can work...there are some general traits which are at least culturally if not universal then nearly so. I think within a game a given PC might prefer one person over another, even a less over more pretty, because of some set of traits (being gothed out or sexy glasses here) on appearance alone, but appearance is not a bad marker, especially a very fast and loose one like the 1-5 scheme.
