Youngbae rummaged Jiyong’s lyrics that were on display on his bed. Where the heck is my hat?
“Yah!” Seunghyun stormed into the bedroom, holding a bowl of vacant milk. “Who cheated and fished through the cereal to get the toy? You know you can’t do that! It’s the law!”
“Well it wasn’t me!” Daesung said as if Seunghyun had been confronting him.
“I don’t like the Captain Crunch toys,” Seungri said from the closet. “They scare me.”
“My hat!” Youngbae cried for joy when he saw it on the top shelf next to Jiyong’s naked statue.
“Youngbae-ah!” Seunghyun barked, figuring out for himself who raided the cereal box.
Youngbae jumped from the sudden noise, as he was about to reach for his hat and knocked the statue off. Daesung made an unsuccessful lunge for it and missed. The statue bounced off his head painfully and landed in Seungri’s hands. Seungri went paranoid from touching a naked statue and dropped it. Instead of catching it and saving the day, Seunghyun whisked his bowl of milk away in fear that the statue would land in it and get it contaminated. They watched horrified as it fell to the ground and broke into pieces.
Before they could blame each other, the security lock on the main entrance rang happily and they heard Jiyong arrive.
“Hide it!” Daesung rasped loudly at Seungri, who was the nearest to the statue.
“I’m not touching it,” Seungri said obstinate.
Youngbae grabbed the pieces of clay and cradled them in his arms. “Where do I put it?”
His questioned remained unanswered as Jiyong’s voice sounded in the room. “What are you guys doing?”
Daesung sprang in front of Youngbae, hiding the statue.
“Ah!” Jiyong yelped when he noticed something out of place. He pointed at Seunghyun, who was still holding the bowl of milk. “No eating in my room! Out! Out! All of you!”
He shooed them away like a mother. Daesung excited awkwardly trying to hide Youngbae, but Jiyong didn’t notice. He was too upset fretting over his room, hoping there were no stains on the carpet.
“You don’t know how close that was,” Seunghyun said in a low voice when Jiyong shut the door behind them.
Seungri looked at the wreck hopelessly. “Hyung, what do we do?”
Youngbae shrugged his shoulders and laid it on the carpeted floor. “Fix it, I guess. Got any glue, Dae?”
As Daesung rushed to Seungri’s and his room for the only glue in the apartment the other three tried to position the statue back together.
“It looks better like this,” Seunghyun said, letting the upper half of the statue stand by itself without the lower piece.
Youngbae viewed Seunghyun’s creation like a masterpiece and sighed dramatically. “Yeah, it does. Too bad we have to fix the whole thing. Seungri, pass the legs, please.”
The maknae pursed his lips in disgust as he picked up the bottom half with his fingertips and dropped it into Youngbae’s lap. He wiped his hand furiously on his shirt, officially grossed out. “Omagosh, omagosh! I just touched a naked man!”
“It’s just a statue, Maknae,” Youngbae said annoyed with his over-acting. “It’s not like you’ve never seen naked people before. Seriously. Learn to knock first,” He said the last sentence under his breath. It was a sacred rule that had been established in the apartment long before they were the tenants. A rule that Seungri was obnoxious for violating on a daily basis.
“Pass, the head, Nohrae,” Youngbae said, as he attached both halves together.
Nohrae rolled the head towards Youngbae’s direction.
He attached it like so and laid the statue sprawled on the floor. “If we just glue it like that, Hyung’ll never notice.”
Seunghyun raised a doubting eyebrow as he looked at the statue. “You think? He’ll probably notice. He’s been staring at it all day yesterday.”
“Ew! Seriously?” Seungri, who had just gotten over the spazz of touching the statue was starting to get that repulsive feeling again. “That means Hyung is ga-”
“I got the glue!” Daesung announced proudly as he trotted in the room.
“Yah! Not so loud,” Seunghyun said loudly as he tugged Daesung to the floor where they had been sitting cross-legged.
Youngbae held out the chipped edge of the head. “Squirt some here so we can attach it.”
Daesung tipped the plastic bottle of glue towards the piece and waited patiently for the magic solution to pour. Youngbae looked at him questionably after a few seconds and the head stayed dry. Daesung shook the bottle trying to coax the glue out. He tapped the bottom hoping that it would have some affect.
Seungri stretched his hand towards him when nothing came out. “Pass it.”
He snatched the bottle and popped the cap off. “Hey, there’s nothing in here!” He said, as he goggled into it with one eye.
“I think Jiyong-hyung used all of it.” Daesung took the bottle back to double check. “Gosh, that’s the only glue we have.”
Seunghyun looked at the vacant bottle then at the broken statue. “We will die today.”
“That means no outing,” Seungri said slowly when he came to realization.
Youngbae stared at the other member’s dejected faces. “C’mon, guys!” He said trying to give them a morale boost. “Jiyong-hyung doesn’t control everything.”
“I don’t control what?” Jiyong’s voice caused them to scramble. Youngbae sat in front of the statue while the others formed a teepee around it. Jiyong came into the room and stopped in his tracks when he saw them. “What are you guys doing?”
“Spending quality time together,” Youngbae said sighing happily. He leaned his head on Seungri, who flinched away immediately.
Jiyong scoffed. “Yeah, right. I know you’re hiding something. Move over.”
He proceeded to push away Seunghyun, who was not the person to give in easily. He blocked all Jiyong’s attempts to grab him or tackle him. Jiyong, though, spent more time at the gym, and had an upper hand. Before he was about to knock him away Seunghyun made his last plea. “Don’t! Or I’ll tell everyone your secret!”
Jiyong’s eyes went wide. He had told Seunghyun many personal things before. The danger of having one of them found out was fatal. “No!”
Seunghyun wiggled his eyebrows. “Yeeees.”
“No!”
“Let me go then.”
“NO!!!”
“Have it your way. Everybody!” He announced to the other three sitting beside him, who were all ears. “To tell you the truth Jiyong actually likes-Ermph!”
Jiyong covered his mouth with his hand. “Shut up, Seunghyun! What the heck? Do you seriously want my reputation to die?”
“As if you have a reputation to kill in the first place,” Youngbae mumbled.
Jiyong let go of Seunghyun, allowing the older man to breath. “What did you say, Dong Youngbae?”
For the maknaes the statue was momentarily forgotten. Seungri tugged on Seunghyun. “What does Jiyong-hyung like?”
Seunghyun smiled, enjoying himself. “You mean who.”
“Tell us!” Daesung was excited to hear. It had been a while since there was a decent scandal.
“No!” Jiyong scrambled away from Youngbae and stopped Seunghyun, who was already laughing from all the leader teasing. Jiyong tackled him and pushed Seunghyun off while covering his mouth incase he would blab it out anytime. The others were laughing and chortling so much to remember that the statue was no longer hidden.
Jiyong turned around to confront the rest. His eyes dropped when he saw the statue amongst their laughing forms.
“Mah statue!” He shrieked, as he ran to its side, pushing them away.
They watched their leader bend down on his knees in heart-brokenness with the statue slumped in his arms and waited for raging hell to break loose. Instead Jiyong looked at it and sighed in annoyance. “Shoot! I thought the glue would work.”
Youngbae looked bug-eyed at him. “You’re not angry, Hyung?”
“Of course I am!” Jiyong snapped. “I broke it this morning and glued it back and that was the only freaking glue in this apartment.”
“Gosh, Ji,” Seunghyun said all of a sudden considerate. He went to the leader and gave him a sympathetic squeeze on his shoulder as he looked at the statue in pity. “Sorry ‘bout that. We should just leave it for now you know. We have to get ready for the outing.”
The other’s stared at Seunghyun suspiciously. After all he was the one that opposed the explicit statue the most. Jiyong, however, didn’t notice anything and agreed. He laid it on his bedroom desk and waved it goodbye, promising that he would be back to fix it later.
Sarah had went ahead and fixed food for them the other day. She left a note on the fridge reminding them to keep it in a cooler lest it would spoil.
“Kimbap!” Seungri squealed as he reached for a sampling.
“Yah!” Youngbae slapped the maknae’s hand away. “It’s for the trip. If you’re hungry go grab a cracker or something before we leave.”
Seungri pouted and cursed his hyung behind his back before running for Daesung to complain to him.
After Daesung inspected the apartment, making sure everything was locked and nothing was left on, he finally announced that it was safe to leave knowing that they would come home to an apartment that had not been burned down or run-sacked.
Seunghyun said he left his cell phone in his room and told the others to go ahead without him. Of course, his phone had been in his pocket all the time. He needed to take care of some other business.
He snatched a plastic bag from the storage in the kitchen and went to Jiyong’s room. Finding the statue easily on the desk, he dumped the pieces into the plastic bag and hurried to the window giddily.
He giggled when he felt his fingers tingle in excitement, as he opened the window. He had always wanted to do something like this. Tying a sturdy knot around the plastic, he tossed the bag outside through the window.
“Naked man over board!” He hollered, completely hyped. “Good riddance!”
He shut the window and rushed to the others, chortling to himself.
Somewhere on ground level an elderly woman with a large sun hat on got the scare of her life.
