The rocky canyons that go for miles and miles past Mexican border are called badlands. Aside from the unsurpassable terrain, rains bring mud washes that rush at the bottom of the canyons destroying anything on their path. Some canyons are explorable by 4x4 Jeeps while most are there for visual pleasure only

On the East side of Anza-Borrego desert lies California's Dead Sea. A vast salt lake is visible from the cliffs in the desert, and a thin vapor layer reflect the sun soon after its rise in a surreal way. About 30 minutes after sunrise the effect is gone, but during its peak it reminds one of a nuclear mushroom cloud somewhere far away...
