I saw Age of Ultron

I saw the second Avengers last weekend.  For the most part I liked it, although I would rank it on the lower end of the assorted Marvel films.  Mostly just way too much story/too many characters shoved in.  But it also had some nice bits and some great sequences.

Finicky spoiler stuff )

Still trying to decide if his holding the hammer was "awesome callback to earlier scene" or "needed a very quick way for character to gain trust gimmick". Maybe it was both.

I thought it was both and I approved of it. There are a couple of scenes like that in Age of Ultron, in-the-moment jokes that later turn out to have been groundwork-Pietro getting nicked with an overeager policeman's bullet in the firefight in Sokovia and giving the guy an aggrieved what the fuck look is funny, but it also establishes that his super-speed does not make him immune to projectile weapons; he can't literally run between the raindrops, and he can't escape a hail of gunfire from a Quinjet. I am . . . not sure I'm all right with his death, since it seriously disrupts continuity in addition to cancelling a relationship I was looking forward to seeing more of, but who knows if it's even permanent in this universe. Coulson's wasn't, apparently. Not that you would know it from this film.

I thought the "Haweye has a whole family!" bit was kind of a weird ( ... )

The movies and TV series don't quite have different continuity, but Coulson is explicitly excluded from the movie continuity for essentially narrative reasons, and oh look a bird!
