So I have to ask: do you think he really loved her, just said it because he mis-identified his feelings, or said it because he felt that it was that time in the relationship when she expected him to say it?

It seemed like (or I got the impression) that she never really felt abt the relationship with the the same intensity as he did. Perhaps he sensed her lesser commitment and decided to get out rather than risk getting hurt.

Or maybe I'm just tired and not seeing this world correctly.

feel like neither of them really "loved" each other... not in the sense that we think of moms and dads "loving" each other, anyway. they "love" each other because they are desperate for someone else; somehow could not convey this w/ my words though.. so this fic was def. a hit & miss
