You know, I might like Peter better if he had better hair.
And now that Claire/Hiro snippet I've been discussing:
“Claire Bennet,” she says and sticks out her hand. Cellular regeneration is his automatic response; long discussions with Mohinder and Peter have conditioned him into recognising powers, not people. They’ve got a world to save, after all.
Despite Ando’s lessons, Hiro’s English is still far too shaky for him to even think of talking and the whole situation too overwhelming to do much other thinking at all. So he concentrates on the things he known ever since his grandfather gave him a copy of Action Comics #1. In the background of his brain ‘cellular regeneration’ beats over and over again until he takes her hand and lifts it up, wanting to check for bone claws.
He looks over that soft, unscarred hand, lost in wonder. Then he catches a glimpse of her face and pauses as she becomes real to him. It’s all real - no reboots, no retcons - and they may just all die tomorrow (except her).
Her laughter awakes something in him, something a little like joy. He sees her face and he’s reminded of his first sight of New York, the whole world in front of him, and he can’t help but smile. Before he releases her hand, he raises it to his lips and gently kisses her knuckles.
Claire’s blushing happily, somewhere behind him Ando is grinning and things might just work out better than Hiro could ever dream.
