What's up with all these LJ bots/hacks?

I know in the Grand Scheme of things (i.e., stealing elections and/or personal data), this is small potatoes, BUT... I still find this incredibly annoying and (even moreso) outright mystifying

I had that happen to me as well with one random entry on Black Mirror episodes, about 10 Russian journals liked that entry for some reason

I see now that most of the usernames have strikethroughs, and the accounts have been suspended. So I guess LJ is on the case! But still, the whole thing is just so weird, and I'm curious to know the purpose of it all.
