Well poop, it is resolutely not powering up. It is an ex-mac mini. It is now a collection of spare parts.
Some of the resistors I cleaned up are blackened, so it's possible they reacted (probably oxidised) which might change their resistance, or it could be that when we finally got called up the whole "it keeps turning itself off thing" was actually "it kept turning itself off and now it won't switch back on".
Our local apple dealer called last week and asked if there were any things we might want to buy - it looks like we will be able to help them meet this month's sales targets after all...
