I shut up the minute the parent says anything about lawsuits. There is no point arguing any further. Once the person has left with the child, I immediately sit down and write up, in as much detail as possible, the events as I witnessed them.

Would you just not say a word, or would you just keep it neutral until she left?

I'm just thinking about how hard-headed some of our customers can be; I know that there are a few who would just pitch a fit endlessly if we let them.

I think it would depend on just how belligerent the person was. If someone is being overly belligerent, the best thing to do is just let them rant. It really irritates them if you DON'T argue with them.

Believe me, we get some pretty belligerent people in our shop on occassion. It's usually those who want to claim we sold them the wrong part. Surprise, that does happen but usually we sold them the right part and they just don't know what they are doing. Some people think if you can turn on the water, that makes you a plumber.

Those are the same people who swear up and down that they know how to do your job, and they will demonstrate that by telling you how it's done. And are always totally off. Gotta love customer service!

Does this store have cameras? If something like this happens, then isn't a report supposed to be filed with the police or the fire department? SHouldn't you, regardless of your position, follow through with the company's or the store's policy and proceedure on that? A lot of places have it where if an accident happens, a report has to be filled out about the incident ( ... )
