Chapter 3: Hidden Message

He exited the bathroom and headed for the second floor. The stairs had so many decorations it was almost a maze. He reached his destination and found one, giant, empty room. No decorations, no lights on, nothing. Will felt almost relieved that the whole house wasn't enveloped with this phony Halloween dcore.

He switched the light on and looked all the way around the wooden floor room. He couldn't even fathom the purpose of the room, but it ddidn't matter. The room was gorgeous to Will; plain was good thing in his mind. He sat in the middle of the room and began to write about it. He was just about finished when he heard a noise from outside. He quickly ran to door and shut off the light. Then ran ever faster to the curtained window.

Will peared carefully out the window. Brett Wilson was outside in the backyard. Will was momentarily distracted by the dry ice fog that crept all over the lawn - they had really gone all out - but drew his attention back to Brett. he looked as if though waiting for something. Suddenly, from the screen door, appeared gavin Michalechuck, Brett's best friend. He handed him a piece of paper.

The "fog" was too thick and Will wasn't certian of what it was. All he knew was that he had to find out. By now he had already removed his mask for a better look out the window. Will could've sworn that Brett's gaze had met his. But that was impossible. The light was off. There was no way that his being there was known.

Will realized that there was no longer any reason for him to stay. he had the "scoop" of the night, bigger than he had possibly imagined. And we was going to find out the whole story. He pulled back on his mask and left the room. He walked downstairs and walked out the door. But Kelly caught him.

"Hey! Leaving so soon, Scream?" Again, Will didn't care to correct the provocative witch. he walked on, not acknowledging her. He went home and removed his mask. He sat down and turned on the TV. "Chucky" was on, one of ill's favorites. he hid his notebook and fell asleep on the couch.

He awoke the next day. His parents were asleep. It took him a while to recall the evernts of last night. Brett - Gavin - paper. It all rushed back. He knew he had to find out what happened. No matter what the consequence.
